Angels on my mind . . .

Morning everyone, Beth here to introduce
this week's new challenge entitled
Long ago I realized I actually had a guardian angel... it was the only logical explanation for some of the wonderful doors that suddenly opened to me as well as a few situations that I miraculously survived.

Keep in mind that this is in no way intended to be religious pursey;
I do not follow an organized religion rather preferring to follow my own way that is a combination of many paths leading to a mindful
and spiritual existence.
Recently the realization that I had never painted my guardian angel struck me with the challenge back in October entitled "Orange".  I thought this would be a wonderful challenge particularly given the holiday season we have just officially ushered in.
Now I know angels mean different things to different people so in this challenge I ask that you create a piece of art depicting your angel be it your guardian or other.

So, get out those art supplies and get creating... be it a greeting card, a tag, a painted or collaged canvas or even an assemblage... as always your imagination is your only limitation.

Submissions are due by noon (eastern time)
on December 2. Leave your link with Mr. Linky below.

Don't forget to link your art so we can all pop over to
each other's blogs for an angelic visit!

Meet and Greet for Aletha J Williams

Morning everyone, Beth here with a warm welcome for our brand newest member! Yup, another member, we're getting so energized with all our new members that the creativity is positively crackling here at Inspiration Avenue!

Aletha is a fabulous mixed media artist and of late a diva of handmade greeting cards. The images below are just a little taste of what you can expect to find in Aletha's Etsy shop, and what you have to look forward to seeing in the months to come here at our very own Inspiration Avenue!

"Hello everyone, my name is Aletha Jane Williams and I live in Tulsa, OK, or better known as “tornado alley.”  I live with my husband (he’s a writer/editor and telecommutes), one cat (Lucyfur), and one dog (Watson the Dachshund).  We have two grown married children and two grandsons.  I became disabled in 2009 and cannot work outside the home so now I concentrate on my health and art.  I am a self-taught artist and am still in the process of learning.

I have been in the graphic arts/print production industry for many years. When I started in the industry we created everything manually, no computers involved!  My 15 years experience in the “crafting/art” world is rubber stamp art, mixed media, and collage."

 "Wonder Nymph"
(handmade card)

"In the past year or so I have become an obsessive card designer, but I would like to get back to mixed-media collage work. Right now I am working on my first art journal page; it's rather small, but I am enjoying the creative process. My creations will always involve rubber or digi stamps. I am an obsessive collector of stamps. I feel like I am collecting little pieces of art that I can turn into my own art."

"Ivy Fairy"
(handmade card)

"Asian Collage"
(set into a shadow box)

"Right now I am working on my first art journal page. It is rather small
but I am enjoying the creative process."

We are very proud to add Aletha to our fabulous group of very talented artists and hope you will give her a warm welcome by stopping by her etsy shop and blog  and get to know her and her beautiful art... remember, the holidays are right around the corner... I'm just saying!!! : D

Hugs and have a fabulously creative day!

Weekly Art Challenge November 19

. . . The Queen of Hearts . . .
 She made some tarts,
All on a summer's day.

The Knave of Hearts,
He stole the tarts,
And took them clean away.

The King of Hearts,
Called for the tarts,
And beat the Knave full sore.

The Knave of Hearts,
Brought back the tarts,
And vowed he'd steal no more.

This challenge is all about

separately or together.

You decide!

Did you know there are multiple queens who are said to
be the Queen of Hearts in the English playing card deck,
but Elizabeth of York might have the best claim to it.

Elizabeth of York

See how she is wearing a hood like Elizabeth's
and holding a Tudor rose?
I think even the facial features are similar.

Elizabeth, married to Henry VII, had seven children.

Her eldest son, Arthur, married Catherine of Aragon, but
sadly Arthur died soon after the wedding. The second son, Henry,
then married Catherine himself after dispensation from the pope
allowed him to marry his brother's widow.
Thus began the story of Henry VIII and his six wives.
It wasn't long before his eye fell upon Anne Boleyn
and he put his first wife Catherine aside.
The rest is history!

“There is no use trying, said Alice;
one can't believe impossible things.
I daresay you haven't had much practice, said the Queen.
When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day.
Why, sometimes I've believed as many as
six impossible things before breakfast.”
~ Lewis Carroll

Off with her head!

Who is the Queen of your heart?
Do you have a furry resident Queen?

Maybe you're the Queen of your own domain!

Some other Queens to consider:

Marie Antoinette

Catherine the Great

Eleanor of Aquitaine

Put your heart into this challenge and
create something heartfelt!
And/or queenly!

Submissions are due by noon (eastern time)
on November 25. Leave your link with Mr. Linky below.

Be sure to link back to Inspiration Avenue in your blog post!

To everyone in the U.S., have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
Count your blessings!

Meet & Greet for Kim Prowse

This is Shelly of
Inspiration Avenue and I would like to
Introduce you t
Kim Prowse
She comes to our team from Beautiful Canada
a blip from Kim herself:

Hello Everybody, I have been involved in many walks of life with the arts. I have designed costumes, quilts, prints being a costume- graphic designer/Illustrator, poet. Basically, I am self taught artist and poet with a heavy influence towards Klimt and my imagination. I have lived and traveled throughout Europe. My favorite times are playing with my cat , daughter and grandson. I hope you enjoy my work. I believe people should do what they believe in. "To please a few is good, too many, not so good." E. Klimt. I believe happiness is the cure-all remedy.
These are all in her Etsy Shop

Kim is also a poet!  Here is one of her favorites!

Fainter still
The universe of your eyes,
as soft as rain
whispers heaven this night,
reeds that sway
then spirals sweet
back to home,
where comfort breathes no pain,

under stars,
 stirs the unclaimed dove
a desire in untainted form
without regretful rooms that pain the heart
a spark,
a soul,
a lingered touch
closer still and yet to part

lingered by movements
where velvet sparks do rise
powers beyond my demise

Meet and Greet for Lori Kennett

Our new IA member, Lori Kennett, comes to us from New South Wales, Australia.  She’s currently doing a lot of photo art that’s based on photographs taken both recently and in the past.  She digitally manipulates her own paintings and uses her photographs to create unique jewelry and paintings.

Orange is a color of choice and she frequently incorporates cat images into her work.  Lori finds it difficult to talk about her art in general terms because it is always changing.
Example from Mandarin Orange Monday 18

One reason she’s joined Inspiration Avenue is her desire
to connect with other artists.

Lori hosts a weekly challenge on her own blog, Lorikart.  It’s called Mandarin Orange Monday.
Each week, she invites other image makers to share their “Orange Art.”
She loves challenges because they help keep her motivated.

Lori’s Etsy Shop, LorikArt, is a showcase for her
“Funky and Fabulous” hand made jewelry.

Each piece is one-of-a-kind and has its own unique style.

When you view the jewelry in her shop a burst of vivid color is the first thing you notice.  She enjoys using tropical birds, exotic and domestic felines, and a variety of striking flora and fauna as her subjects.

The IA team supports each other in lots of ways and Lori is ready and willing to work with us in both our individual and group artistic endeavors.

Please join all of the Inspiration Avenue members in welcoming Lori Kennett!
We know you'll like her as much as we all do!

Look Through A Window and Share What You See

This week's challenge is a spin-off from an idea first originating with Susan in Texas, USA.  She writes a blog and shared pictures of some of her friends' views from their kitchens and living areas. It was a pleasure to see how others viewed their world, so let's do it on Inspiration Avenue this week.

Here are a few window views Susan shared here.

This one is a view from over my kitchen sink:

Please share your view and link back with Mr. Linky below.  Grab this button and put it on your blog so others can view even more Inspiration Avenue window views.  Please remember to leave a comment after linking so others will know you have visited.
